The Seating section is where you map your physical layout (lanes, bays, tables, etc.) into OtterOrder and generate QR codes for each position.
Each “seat” gets its own name, number and URL so you can put a unique QR code on every lane or table and tie activity back to the right spot.
You can access it from the left-hand menu under Catalog → Seating.
The page shows a list of seats with their name, seat number, status and two actions on the right: a QR icon and Edit.
Creating seats (lanes / tables)
Use seats to mirror your real-world layout: lane 1–10, Bay A–D, Table 1–20, and so on.
To add a new seat:
- Click Create a seat.
- Enter a Name – this is what appears in reports inside OtterOrder (for example “lane 2” or “Table 1”).
- Enter the Number – this is what customers will see on signage or the physical lane/table (for example “12” or “T1”).
- Leave Status as Active if it should be available immediately.
- Click Save.
The new seat appears in the list alongside your existing lanes/tables. You can create as many as you need to match your layout.
If you ever need to change the label or number, use Edit on the right-hand side of the row.
QR codes for each seat
Every seat has its own QR code and URL. When someone scans that QR, they’re taken to the unique OtterOrder “tabs” page for that seat (the URL shown in the QR modal), so any activity is tied to the correct lane or table.
To open the QR settings for a seat, click the QR icon on the right of the row.
A QR Code window appears with:
- A live QR preview
- The seat’s unique URL (with a copy button)
- Options to add an image
- Options to control the dot colour and style
- Buttons to Download or Save
Adding an image (logo / photo)
You can embed a small image or logo into the QR to match your brand.
- In the QR Code window, click Select an image.
- Choose an existing image from the picker, or upload a new file.
- Save.
The preview updates so you can confirm everything is readable before you download or print it.
Customising colours and style
The QR Code window lets you style the code to match your brand while keeping it scannable:
- Dots Color – set the colour of the QR dots (for example your brand red).
- Dots Type – choose between different dot styles (e.g. square or dots).
After you change these settings, click Save. A confirmation appears (“QR code updated successfully”) and the design is stored for that seat.
You can also click Download to save the QR as an image file for printing on lane signage, table tents, stickers, or posters.
How venues typically use this
Once seats and QR codes are set up, you can:
- Place the correct QR on each lane, bay or table.
- Have customers or staff scan the code so they land on the right OtterOrder tabs URL for that specific seat.
- Use those URLs in your internal flows (check-in, starting a tab, assigning orders, etc.) knowing each session is tied to the right physical location.
Seating and its QR codes give you a clean way to connect the physical layout of your business with the digital experience in OtterOrder.
