How to Sell Range Passes and Enforce Waivers with OtterOrder

OtterOrder is built to support outdoor ranges — including smaller operations selling fewer than 12 items that may not need a traditional POS system.

Common use cases:

  • Day passes and access passes
  • Guest usage fees
  • Non-complex inventory (targets, trap shooting, etc.)

Common problems OtterOrder solves:

  • Waiver enforcement
  • Day pass payments
  • Guest tracking
  • Staff dependencies

Setting Up a Range Product

  1. Create or select a Range category in your product catalog.
  2. Add a new product (e.g., “Day Pass”) and assign it to the Range category.
  3. (Optional) Add a description to help staff identify the product.
  4. Enable Top Pick — this makes the product accessible directly from the counter without browsing categories.
  5. Enable the Range Product toggle — this requires the customer to have a signed waiver on file before the product can be added to checkout.
  6. Set the price and save.

Waiver Enforcement at Checkout

OtterOrder automatically enforces waiver compliance at the point of sale:

  • Adding a range product without a customer selected will prompt staff to choose one first.
  • If the selected customer does not have a signed waiver on file, the system will block the product from being added to the order.
  • Once a customer with a valid waiver is selected, the product can be added and checkout completed normally.

Waivers are collected and stored via OtterSign. Customer waiver status syncs automatically to the POS — contact info including phone number carries over as well.

Completing a Range Transaction

Print the receipt on the spot or send it via email or SMS.

Select the customer (waiver must be on file).

Add range products to the order.

Process payment via card — the terminal will be prompted automatically.
